Veronika Dubinika
Bioinformatics Fellow
My research is focused on investigating the ecology and evolution of human gut bacteria. My interest in biology was sparked while I was getting my B.S. and M.S. in Applied Mathematics and Physics at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Back then I worked on bioinformatic analysis of the human gut metagenomes and I am fascinated by the diversity and complexity of bacterial ecosystems ever since. I got my Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign under Prof. Sergei Maslov’s supervision. My thesis research was focused on the mechanistic modeling of microbial communities and stress-induced gene regulation in non-model yeast species. I am passionate to combine multi-omics datasets with theoretical models to improve our intuition on how microbes live and function.
