Xinru Zhang, Ph.D.
Bioinformatics Fellow
I am interested in leveraging data to understand human-specific variations and develop personalized medicine. My work in Pollard lab focuses on developing machine learning models on multi-omics data to identify human-specific changes to aging and cancer. I received my Ph.D. in bioinformatics and genomics from Penn State, co-advised by Kateryna Makova and Yifei Huang. During my Ph.D., I pursued several projects in primate evolution leveraging tools in genomics and proteomics.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Outreach Activities
I have performed on the pipa, a traditional Chinese musical instrument at multiple venues in Pennsylvania, where I was consistently impressed by the enthusiasm for diverse cultures. During my Ph.D., I actively contributed to Genomix, a student club, by organizing events, sharing internship experiences, and connecting individuals with interests in bioinformatics. Additionally, I gave lectures at high schools to introduce our research to a broader audience.
